Reality check on arbitrage

Arbitrage exists but it is not a sustainable income strategy at modest bankrolls. Books notice arb activity fast. Consistent arb players get their accounts limited or banned within weeks; the typical arb window at US books is 3 to 6 months of limited action before the books stop you.

Arb is best used tactically: to turn a stuck ticket into a guaranteed profit when the market moves your way, or to equalize a small mispricing when you happen to see it. Treat it as opportunistic, not a primary strategy. And remember: a 2 percent arb tied up in two books for a day is equivalent to less than 100 percent APR if you rotate the capital perfectly, which is hard in practice.
